Planning A Retirement Party

During our working years, most of us, think about that day when we can retire.  When it finally comes there are many things to consider as life in many ways slows way down as schedules change and life interests change.  In light of these things it should be a time to celebrate being retired; sort of like graduating to the next stage in life except you don’t get a square hat and a tassel.

Putting together a retirement party can be a lot of fun.  The freedom the retirement brings is a great opportunity to celebrate with friends and family.  Here are some things you can do to put together a great party:

Decorate Well - Your local stores should have the standard fare of party supplies, but if you have access to a specialized party store these are the best places to get your goods as they usually have a wider variety  of decorating items that will improve your party.

Create a Fun and Festive Atmosphere – Be sure to adjust the lighting, use great music, by the best beer and alcohol for your guests.  An ice breaker game may be a way to set the social tone desired.

Remember – Find old pictures and nostalgic items that will bring back good memories that you share with friends and family.  Plan beforehand to have several guests tell a great story that recalls past memories that are cherished.  Have some toasts to celebrate the mood.

Gifts – If appropriate, consider gifts for the retiree and even gifts for the party guests to make the time unique and special for all involved.

As you plan your retirement party remember that it is a celebration of great memories and life to come.  It is a time to enjoy future freedoms not yet experienced and to share this time with family and friends.  Plan and throw a great party because you only retire once, unless you are Brett Favre or Michael Jordan.
